Craftsman

E-mail to a Friend Add To Favorites Print

(1905-1930) The name Craftsman comes from a magazine famed furniture designer Gustav Stickley published in the early 1900’s, in which he included house plans he designed.

True Craftsman homes are those that follow Stickley’s original design plans.

A Craftsman style home is often a bungalow, sometimes referred to as a Craftsman Bungalow, that pays homage to the Arts and Crafts Movement of the time, which celebrated handicrafts, natural materials and simple forms. Other styles of homes can have Craftsman features, such as Prairie, Mission, Foursquare, and Western Stick styles.

Craftsman style homes are usually 1 ½ stories, with a low-pitched roof with wide eaves. The porch has thick square or round columns, with stone porch supports. Craftsman style homes have numerous windows including several made of stained glass.
