Fairy Tale Charm for Baby's Room

E-mail to a Friend Add To Favorites Print

Decorating a nursery is a tender experience, filled with hope and anticipation. Now you can create
a look that is as sweet as
those emotions.

A fun, froggy border runs around this room at half-height, pulling it within a baby's or toddler's range of vision. The soft lavender and yellow combination is warm and welcoming, while the green accents serve to liven
it up.

This whimsical combination works equally well for a boy or a girl, and the frog theme will continue to delight through toddlerhood.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Walls:

  1. Prime the surface with Fresh Start® Primer and allow to dry.
  2. Roll on the yellow undercoat. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  3. In a corner of the room, measure a span about four feet from the floor and mark with a pencil dot. Do the same at the other three corners.
  4. Using a pencil, draw in your water line. Draw this free form, taking care to keep it slightly irregular. Bring the level back up to your four-foot mark in the corners, so the line does not grow noticeably crooked.
  5. Mask off the area directly above the line with painter's tape.
  6. Cut in the area around the water line with a brush, using the blue-lavender paint.
  7. Fill in the rest of the lavender area with a roller.
  8. Once paint is dry to touch, remove the painter's tape.
  9. Working free hand with a large artist's brush, add the spirals in the same yellow as the top half of the wall. Avoid placing them in an overly symmetrical pattern.

Frogs:

  1. Make your frog stencil. Create three to five frog shapes, copying them on a photocopier and enlarging or reducing to the desired size. Design Tip: Make the frog stencils slightly larger than you think you will need. They will look better as a border that way.
  2. Cut out the shapes and glue to a piece of thin cardboard. Using a craft knife, cut along the outlines to make your stencil.
  3. Place the stencil along the border at irregular intervals. Brush or sponge on the accent color to create the frogs.
  4. Any additional detail can be added by hand with small artist's brushes.
