(MONTVALE, NJ—OCTOBER, 2011)—Benjamin Moore is taking one more step in its drive to ease what's often a home decorating dilemma: choosing paint colors. The iconic coatings manufacturer has joined with renowned interior designer Darryl Carter to bring his professional expertise and trained eye in creating compatible color combinations to American households with the launch of the Darryl Carter Colors by Benjamin Moore.

His initial selection of 24 exquisite paint hues is available exclusively through benjaminmoore.com and its network of authorized retailers nationwide. These are the only resources with the precise colorant formulation for what is coded as the DC-01 through DC-24 hues. An additional 24 colors will be added to the palette later this year.

In curating his recommended palette, Carter has grouped colors into six "families," each comprising four hues. These are exceptionally livable colors that were chosen to help guide consumers on confidently creating color combinations for the walls, ceilings, trims and accents of a room. Not only do the colors in each group complement one another, but the full spectrum also is harmonious, which means there's never a wrong choice in putting together color combinations. The range reflects Carter's signature restraint in decorating, distinguished by subtleties and nuances intended to yield environments that are the ultimate in comfort.

White, of course, is one of the key color groups Carter has included in his inaugural palette. "It envelops a room and produces a sense of boundless serenity," he said. Next in his lineup is a quartet of Gray-Green hues, chosen because they offer a "retreat into a cozy respite." The Blues in his selection are tinged with a hint of green that "lends a refreshing calm." Hues labeled Khaki are cited for their ability to create intimate spaces, while Greige tones were chosen because they "wash a room with earthy tints of gray and taupe." The sixth group in Carter's palette features deep, dark Accent colors in shades of gray, black, brown and blue. "Accent colors profoundly articulate architectural details or occasional furniture pieces, redefining a room," he commented.

According to Ray Gomez, Benjamin Moore's director of color marketing, "We are excited to offer Darryl Carter's color recommendations to consumers who are tackling their own home decorating projects. In essence, this program gives them direct access to one of America's leading design professionals and lets them benefit from his exceptional talent, instantly taking away color options to apply to their own projects. When they visit our online presentation of the palette," continued Gomez, "they will find inspirational room settings by Darryl that can help further fuel their own ideas and project concepts."

Carter has been an admitted fan of Benjamin Moore paints almost since the beginning of his design career, which he embarked upon 14 years ago following his defection from his family's business and the practice of law. In 2010, he was tapped as one of eight design celebrities to star in Benjamin Moore's national advertising campaign. The D.C.-based pro and his work are the frequent subjects of top design publications, and his second book is due to be published next year, while his first, The New Traditional, continues to enjoy strong sales.

"From the start of my career, Benjamin Moore has always been my 'go to' paint. Much of how I articulate an environment is defined by paint. This informs the feeling of an environment as much as what it looks like. Our collaboration is an opportunity for me to share color combinations that have always proven to work seamlessly together."
