Product Research, Innovation & Quality

Benjamin Moore’s team of more than 100 chemists, chemical engineers, technicians, and support staff continually develops new products while ensuring our product formulations remain best in class. Each lab brings specialized expertise, from colour standards and the advancement of high-performance industrial coatings to the development of new, innovative architectural products. Through ongoing testing, research, and improvement, we deliver products that meet the evolving needs of our customers and the industries we serve. Many products across various lines are low- or zero-VOC (volatile organic compounds), including Aura, Regal Select, Ben®, Eco Spec, and Ultra Spec 500, among others. Several of our architectural coating formulations range from zero to 100 grams per litre (g/L) VOC.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING, SUPPLIER STANDARDS, AND AUDITING Our commitment to responsible sourcing drives continuous improvement in our procurement practices, including how we evaluate, select, and partner with suppliers. Benjamin Moore maintains a rigorous auditing program focused on financial stability, supply risk, reputation, safety, quality, and corporate social responsibility. All core suppliers undergo an initial audit and are periodically reassessed based on risk analysis. Audit findings are reviewed with the supplier during a closeout meeting where areas for improvement are outlined, and, if needed, a corrective action plan is implemented. Corrective action plans are reviewed at least quarterly until completed. If an audit finding is high risk and cannot be corrected to Benjamin Moore’s satisfaction, we begin the process of moving that business to a new supplier or putting preventive actions in place to mitigate risk. CONFLICT MINERALS We also comply with Berkshire Hathaway’s Conflict Minerals Policy Statement. The policy statement commits Berkshire Hathaway and its subsidiaries to comply with the Conflict Minerals Rule issued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and work with our suppliers to ensure the responsible sourcing of materials containing “conflict minerals”—the ores of tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold.
