Even though vinyl siding is one of the most common exterior building materials, many homeowners are not aware that it can be painted. Repainting vinyl siding not only helps clients easily boost their home's curb appeal it is a lot less expensive than re-siding. That's where a professional painting contractor comes in.

Step 1: Cleaning Vinyl Siding
Before painting, the surface must be cleaned thoroughly. Any mildew, chalk, or dirt must be removed to ensure maximum adhesion.
TIP: The best way to clean vinyl siding is either by hand scrubbing or power washing. Consider Clean Multi-Purpose Cleaner (318), which is ideal for cleaning vinyl surfaces. No matter the cleaner used, thoroughly rinse the surface with clean water after washing, as the surface needs to be dry before priming or painting.
Step 2: Priming Vinyl Siding
In most cases, a primer is not necessary; the Benjamin Moore exterior products for use with the Colors for Vinyl palette, are self-priming on properly prepared vinyl.
TIP: Pitted or porous vinyl siding must always be primed. Consider Fresh Start® High Hiding All Purpose Primer (046) for this step.

Step 4: Painting Vinyl Siding
- Two coats is typically the recommended application for exteriors, however always follow the directions on the can.
- Do not over-apply product.
- Spray, brush or roll on to surface.
- Vinyl siding does not retain moisture, so it is easy to clean and dries quickly.
TIP: Do not apply when air and surface temperatures are below 40°F (4.4°C) and avoid painting in direct sunlight – the surface should not be hot to the touch.
