2. Where can I buy Benjamin Moore paint?
Benjamin Moore paint and paint samples are available at independently owned paint and hardware stores.
You can also buy Benjamin Moore gallons of paint and some fan decks online, however you must pick them up at the selected retailer. Color swatches, fan decks, painting tools (brushes and rollers), and paint and stain samples can be shipped to you directly in the continental United States. Here are some guidelines:
*Gallons of paint and stain: Available for pick up in store only
*Paint samples 16 oz. (1 pint): Either pick up in store or ship directly to you from our online store.
*Color swatches, fan decks and painting tools (brushes and rollers): Shipped direct to you; not available for pick up in store.
For products and colors not available on our site, please contact your local Benjamin Moore retailer.
3. Where can I buy a paint sample or a color swatch?
You can purchase a pint-size, brush-on paint sample at your local Benjamin Moore retailer. You can also order a brush-on paint sample from the Benjamin Moore online store and have it delivered directly to your home.
You can purchase 4" x 8" color swatches on our online store only; color swatches are not available in stores.
4. What is the difference between a paint sample and a color swatch?
Benjamin Moore offers two types of color samples:
Paint color samples (available in stores and online): Paint color samples are 16 oz. cans of paint in the color of your choice. They are only available in eggshell sheen, and are formulated for interior use only.
Paint color samples cover approximately two 4' X 4' or eight 2' x 2' areas with two coats of paint. You can brush a paint color sample directly on your wall—or on a white poster board. We recommend a large white poster board, so you can move it around the room throughout the day to see how it will appear in different lighting conditions. This helps avoid "surprises” on your ultimate color choice. If you opt to brush your paint color sample directly on your wall, consider using a primer if needed.
Color swatches (available online only): These 4” x 8” swatches, in an eggshell finish, allow you to test a color without painting a wall. Color swatches are a good choice when trying to decide between many colors at one time. Simply tape them on to your wall (note that color swatches are not ‘peel and stick’), observe them in different lighting conditions, and compare colors against another.
Both paint color samples and color swatches are final sale and not eligible for refunds. Paint Color Samples and color swatches are shipped from different locations, so they may arrive at different times. There is a maximum of 10 color swatches per customer. Learn more about our color samples and get tips on how to use them to find your perfect paint color.
5. Do you sell samples of exterior stain?

9. What is Gennex® Color Technology?
Gennex® Color Technology is the reason that you cannot “match” Benjamin Moore® color in another paint brand. Why? Because the combination of Benjamin Moore’s proprietary Gennex® waterborne colorant with Benjamin Moore paint creates an end-result that simply cannot be replicated.
Most common paint colorants require the addition of certain chemicals so that they can easily mix into any number of paints—chemicals that ultimately weaken them. Proprietary Gennex Color Technology is engineered specifically by Benjamin Moore, for Benjamin Moore paints. The result is the premium paint that makes Benjamin Moore synonymous with quality.
Aura® Interior paint, Aura® Exterior paint, Natura® Interior paint, Regal® Select Interior paint, Regal® Select Exterior paint, ben® Interior paint, ben® Exterior paint and many others are engineered with the “science” behind Benjamin Moore quality: Learn more about Gennex® Color Technology.
10. What is Color Lock®?
Benjamin Moore’s proprietary Color Lock® technology is exclusive to premium Aura® Interior paint and Aura® Exterior paint. Thanks to Color Lock®, color pigments are locked into the paint film, so color doesn’t fade, even after repeated washings. Benefits of Aura® with Color Lock® technology include:
- Covers walls more completely so you can use less paint
- Unprecedented durability and no color rub-off, even after repeated washings
- Extreme hide to cover dark colors and imperfections
- Uniquely smooth finish
In addition to Aura® Interior and Exterior paints, Color Lock® enhances Aura® Color Stories®, a sophisticated collection of 240 colors that exhibit an accentuated response to different lighting conditions.
11. What is the Color Capture® app?
Available for iPhones and Android OS phones, the Color Capture® app lets you capture color with your phone's camera and instantly find its match from Benjamin Moore's 3500+ paint colors.
12. Where can I get a color consultation?
Many Benjamin Moore independently owned retailers offer color consulting that can take place either virtually or in person. Find a retailer to inquire about your local store's color consulting services.
Take advantage of Benjamin Moore's robust library of Color Tools. Bring home Color Samples to help you observe color at home in different lighting conditions (natural and artificial), and download the free Benjamin Moore Color PortfolioTM app to tap into the power of the Photo and Video Visualizers, both of which let you "try on" colors using your phone's camera.
